Established in the early 1880's, the town still has a rustic, "old
West" atmosphere, which can be traced to its mining roots. Today,
surrounded by National Forest, wilderness, and Yellowstone National Park, the
area is an outdoor recreationists dream.

Spectacular scenery, world-class fishing and miles of
wilderness fulfill any outdoor enthusiast's expectations!
 | Colter Pass - three miles east of Cooke City. Only a
few hardy folks live here year-round. Several trails starting
from this area take you to gorgeous country and fantastic fishing |
 | Silver Gate - Since 1932, Silver Gate has served as the North
East Gate to Yellowstone National Park. Sitting at 7,400 feet
elevation and surrounded by peaks rising to 10,000 feet, its the
perfect mountain get-a-way! |
 | Snowmobiling - Known as the "Black Diamond of
Snowmobiling" the area offers world-class groomed trails and deep
powder play areas for experts and novices alike. |

 | Lulu Pass - Lulu Pass Road leaves Highway 212- 1 3/4 miles
east of Cooke City. Approximately five miles to the end of this
Forest Service road, find the remains of the town/mine site of
Glengarry. Along the Lulu Pass Road, there are also trails that
will take you to high mountain lakes. Talk to the locals about
the rugged hike to Grasshopper Glacier. |
 | Beartooth Highway - Highway 212 winds its way from Red Lodge
to Cooke City. Rising to 10,000 feet, this road offers
incredible vistas, high mountain fishing, and backcountry hiking. |
 | Cross Country Skiing - Groomed trails, backcountry tours and
telemarking offer the skier serene to extreme conditions. |
